Designcenter NX License Checkout Issue Resolved in Latest Update |April 01, 2026
Issue Description:
A defect was reported to Siemens where Designcenter NX appeared to check out more than one bundle license simultaneously. This behavior has been resolved in a new update.
Impacted Customers and Conditions:
This specific behavior affects users only when all the following conditions are met:
- Your site uses more than one bundle product within its license file (e.g., NX91110 and NX93100).
- A user at your site is assigned to access multiple bundle products (e.g., UGS_LICENSE_BUNDLE=NX91110, NX93100).
- That user is actively using a lower-level bundle (e.g., NX91110) and then accesses a command exclusively found in a higher-level bundle (e.g., NX93100).
Background on Licensing Toolkit:
All Siemens products incorporate a common license toolkit to perform licensing functions. The licensing team routinely updates this toolkit, and Siemens products integrate these updated versions. For Designcenter NX, the license toolkit version is typically updated with each new release and occasionally in monthly updates when circumstances require it.
How the Issue Manifests:
When a user running Designcenter NX requests to use a license not available in their current bundle, the license toolkit checks for an available higher-level bundle. If a higher-level bundle is available, the system checks it out to the user.
The license toolkit then performs "bundle consolidation." When the new bundle is an exact superset of the previous one this process should check in the lower-level bundle, making it available for other users.
However, due to this defect, the bundle consolidation process did not function as expected, causing the lower-level bundle to remain checked out alongside the new higher-level bundle.
Root Cause:
An updated version of the Siemens license toolkit, v4.4.3.0, was initially embedded into Designcenter NX 2512 during its development phase and was also backported to Designcenter NX 2506.5000 in November. The root cause was traced to a regression in this specific version of the license toolkit that caused the bundle consolidation process to behave incorrectly.
Solution:
The problem is resolved in a new version of the Licensing Toolkit, v4.4.5. This updated toolkit will be included in Designcenter NX 2606 and has also been backported to the latest updates of Designcenter NX 2506 and Designcenter NX 2512.
Please note that this issue does not impact the Siemens License Server (SLS) software. Only the client-side license toolkit embedded in Designcenter NX is affected.
Affected Releases:
- Designcenter NX 2506.5000 through 2506.8500
- Designcenter NX 2512.1700 through 2512.6000
Resolved In:
- Designcenter NX 2506.8520 and later
- Designcenter NX 2512.7000 and later
We recommend that all customers using the affected releases update to a resolved version if they meet the conditions outlined in the “Impact” section.
